ModelRisk 4.3 is now available

First of all we want to wish everybody a Happy New Year. We hope that 2012 brings a lot of opportunities, both professionally and personally. ModelRisk is a Monte Carlo simulation and optimization tool that is constantly developing and as a New Year's resolution we intend to continue with our steady pace of new releases, new functions and unrivalled customer support. The Vose Software team wants to kick off with a bang in 2012 and therefore we are proud to announce the release of version 4.3 of ModelRisk.

Users of ModelRisk Professional or Industrial with a current maintenance plan can upgrade at no charge.

The new features are:

  1. More distributions
ModelRisk now includes an additional 19 new distributions. Each distribution has been carefully selected to bring extra real world value to your modeling.
  2. Goto sample feature
ModelRisk now includes a feature that allows you to select any generated scenario from your simulation run and reproduce it in your model. This lets you investigate any scenario in full that is of interest, or allows you to recreate an error in your model that would be hard to find otherwise.. It is also a very useful feature if you need to show where your simulation results came from, or demonstrate that a risk is being modeled correctly - for compliance with regulators, for example.
  3. Simulation statistics functions
Functions like VoseSimMean, that return the statistic of a nominated cell after a simulation run, now retain their values when you save and close the model. This means that you won’t have to rerun the model the next time you open it to be able to see the values they take.
  4. Simulation results data list
We have improved how the ModelRisk Results Viewer handles results data so you can now view, sort and filter simulation data results instantly no matter how large the simulation run.
  5. Simulation results data export
We have improved the order in which the ModelRisk Results Viewer exports the simulation data to spreadsheets, so inputs, outputs and series are easier to find and use.

19 new distributions added!

We have added 19 new distributions to the Pro and Industrial editions of ModelRisk. ModelRisk now features a total of 119 distributions. This is the most extensive range of distributions found in any risk analysis software package on the market. We often get the question: “Why are so many distributions included within ModelRisk?”. The answer is simple: the 90/10 rule.

This principle states that 90% of ModelRisk users will only use 10% of the available distributions. But… it is always a different 10%. Engineering users will use a different set of distributions than users in pharmacy. Therefore, we have chosen our range of distributions very carefully to make sure every industry is represented.

Defining your input parameters by choosing the most suitable distribution is the first step of accurate modeling. We have updated our compendium on distributions with the following new distributions:

- Burnt Finger Poisson - GEV - HypergeoD - HypergeoM
- KernelCU - Lifetime2 - Lifetime3 - LifetimeExp
- LogTriangle - LogUniform - Maxwell - Mixed Normal
- NormalAlt - PoissonUniform - (ZI)Skellam - SkewNormal
- Slash - Weibull3

Business risk course available in video format

At the end of last year we offered several sessions of our business risk analysis training course to companies that wanted to learn how to apply practical risk analysis to their business. This training course is now available in video format. Our courses are based on over twenty years of experience of solving real-world risk problems. David Vose, one of the world’s most respected risk analysts, will personally guide you through simple risk analysis tools and techniques that can make a real difference to your company.

The big benefit of the video is that you can learn at your own pace. Alongside to the video, you will also receive the presentation and all example models used in the training courses and a half hour of individual consulting with David Vose to:

  • go over any models you are interested in
  • look at how to apply the ideas in your work
  • look at other risk modeling aspects of particular interest to you
  • go through any software features you need explaining

Tell us the problems you are facing in everyday modeling

ModelRisk is constantly under development to provide more features and greater usability. If you have any suggestions for improvements, ideas for new features or any other feedback concerning our software, please don't hesitate to contact us. Since you are already using ModelRisk, we would like to receive your feedback to use as a quote on our website.
